Osram Xenon Ballast
Osram Werke, a subsidiary of Siemens from 1978 to 2013, is based in Munich and is represented with 33 sites in 14 countries worldwide. The name, which was patented on April 17, 1906, derives from the German names for the metals osmium (OS) and tungsten (Wolfram - RAM), which are very suitable for filaments.
In the 1930s, the company was - with a market share of 70% - one of the world's leading manufacturers of lamps based in Berlin. After the end of the war in 1945, the Soviet Union dismantled the plants and, in 1949, the VEB Berlin light bulb factory "Rosa Luxemburg," which later merged with the "GDR-Combine" Narva, was created. In 1954, the company’s move from Berlin to Munich took place. In 1956, the company was converted into a GmbH. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the light bulb production in Berlin was discontinued in 1992 and the building was declared a monument. Among other things, Osram produces lamps, LED lamps, energy saving lamps, gas discharge and halogen lamps, as well as lamps for special applications such as stage or studio lighting.
